Andrew Barber
Having graduated from Massey University with a BHort(tech) Hons Andrew has been involved in agricultural engineering consultancy for over 10 years, initially with Agriculture NZ and now in his own company, AgriLINK New Zealand.
Andrew’s two main areas of interest is water and energy. This includes irrigation scheduling, storm water design and erosion management. On the energy side Andrew has conducted energy analysis and benchmarking projects for the New Zealand dairy industry, outdoor vegetable and arable industries, protected cropping and kiwifruit industries. Most of this work has been driven by market demands to account for energy use and to provide quantifiable environmental indicators. This has naturally progressed into highlighting and quantifying energy efficiency tools and management practices.
Andrew was the Project Manager of the Franklin Sustainability Project, an initiative by outdoor vegetable growers, primarily in response to soil erosion but which also encompasses a whole range of sustainability issues. This multi?stakeholder project was the recipient of an MfE Green Ribbon Award in 2000.
Andrew is a Winston Churchill Fellow. He travelled to the UK and The Netherlands in 1997 to investigate greenhouse wastewater treatment systems.
